Instructions To Candidates Appearing The Typing Skill Test

1. Candidates can opt for typing either on manual typewriter or on Personal Computer (PC).

2. Candidates should bring their own typewriting machines with them. RRB, Guwahati will not provide any machine and will also not be able to supply any machine if the machine brought by the candidates becomes defective. Accordingly candidates are advised to bring good quality typewriter machine with them. Electronic typewriting machines will not be allowed. Candidates will be provided blank sheets by the RRB and they are required to type on one side of the sheets provided and in double space. However, PC will be provided by the RRB for the skill test.

3. The candidates are required to pass the typewriting test at the minimum speed of 30 words per minute (wpm) in English and 25 wpm in Hindi on manual typewriter. In case, the candidate opts to use a PC then the minimum speed required to pass the skill test is 30 wpm in English and 25 wpm in Hindi when editing tools for correcting mistakes are not used. In case editing tools are used, then the minimum speed for passing the skill test is 40 wpm in English and 35 wpm in Hindi.

4. 5% mistakes of the total words typed will be ignored when manual typewriter or editing tool disabled PC is used. However all mistakes will be accounted if editing tool for correcting mistakes is used. However all mistakes will be accounted if an editing tool for correcting mistakes is used.

5. Candidates are required to type 300 words so as to attain a minimum speed of 30 wpm in English typewriting. Similarly, a candidate appearing in Hindi typewriting should type 250 words in order to attain a speed of 25 wpm. The duration of the test is 10 minutes. The transcripts of those candidates, who do not type out 300 words in English / 250 words in Hindi in the prescribed time, will not be evaluated. However, candidates who opt to use PC with editing tools for correcting mistakes will have to type 400 words in English to attain a minimum speed of 40 wpm. In case of Hindi, candidates will have to type 350 words to attain a speed of 35 wpm.

6. Candidates must start typing from the starting of the question paper and must complete the whole paper. After completing the passage once before the allotted time, candidates may retype the whole or part of the test paragraph until expiry of the time. However, the paragraph retypes will also be evaluated to arrive at the typing speed.
