About CORE Allahabad
A separate administrative set up popularly known as the Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) has been set up, functioning at Allahabad to be in overall charge of the Railway Electrification projects all over India.
This organization is headed by a General Manager. It has various project units currently operating from different locations viz. Ambala, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gorakhpur, Hajipur, Kota, Lucknow, New Jalpaiguri and Secunderabad. This organisation has been functioning since 1961.
A centralised organisation popularly known as CORE ( Central Organisation for Railway Electrification) was set up in 1979 at Allahabad.
There are about 277 officers and 2060 Group ’C’ and Group ’D’ staff (as on 31.03.12), who are managing the work of Railway Electrification in CORE and its project offices.
Starting with 1500 V direct electric traction on 3rd Feb, 1925 a small section of 16 Kms between Bombay VT and Kurla Harbor, Railway Electrification has travelled a long journey since.
Indian Railways are today having 22224 route kms of its tracks under the electric traction system as on 31.03.2012. Electrified Route constitute 34.48% of the total Railway Network and 40.27% of the BG System respectively. Read More..
