Indian Railway Institute of Civil Engineering, Pune

About : IRICEN Pune

IRICEN had a modest beginning in 1959 when a "Permanent Way Training School" was set up at Pune to fulfil the long-felt need of providing in-house training to freshly recruited civil engineers of Indian Railways.

Over the years, advancement in track and bridge technology led to the upgrading of the institute to cover track, bridges and other modules that a Railway Civil Engineer encounters. The name of the Institute under went changes as follows :

Indian Railways Institute of Advanced Track Technology in 1971.

Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering (IRICEN) in 1985.

A number of additional wings housing state-of-the-art laboratories and model rooms have been added over the years giving it the present shape. Today fresh entrants rub shoulders with seasoned and hardened veterans in their common pursuit of development and upgradation of knowledge and skills.

Beginning in 1959 as a modest ‘Permanent Way Training School’ at Pune, IRICEN has come a long way in fulfilling the needs of training to freshly-recruited Railway Civil Engineers and professionals. The Institute covers training modules on Track, Bridges and Structures covering specific needs of the railways. It provides for interaction amongst practising engineers, qualified, experienced & seasoned professionals and fresh entrants.

Located in the historical and cultural city of Pune, IRICEN imparts training to upto 100 engineers/ managers at a time. Available infrastructure for conducting various training programmes includes a well-stocked technical library, computer centre, material testing laboratory, model room/ museum, hostel, mess and recreational facilities for the trainee officers.

For achieving excellence in training, IRICEN has obtained ISO 9001-2000 certification. As per letter of certification issued by M/s. Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Holland (the certifying body), the certificate is effective from 9th December 2003 to 9th December 2006.
